This beautiful man-made lake was created in 1967-68 with a 1,100-acre surface area reservoir at an elevation of 8,100 feet located in the Willow Creek Valley of the State Park Range. Steamboat Lake Marina reflects the majestic Hahn’s Peak named after Joseph Hahn. Hahn’s Peak was a center for gold mining in the 1860’s and reminders of the past can still be recognized in the towns around the base of the mountain.

Enjoy fishing, boating, swimming and camping making Steamboat Lake one of the most popular areas in Colorado. By late summer the water temperatures only reach the low 70s for a refreshing dip in the lake. Swimming is only available at The Dutch Hill swim beach.

There are 198 campsites at Steamboat Lake State Park, and 10 camper cabins at the Marina, in a beautiful settings shaded by Aspen and Lodge pole Pine with many shoreline campsites. Campers can rent dock space from the Marina or rent a pontoon boat for some relaxation on the lake.

Boat trailers can be stored at the West end of the Marina in the trailer storage area. Boat ramps are located at Sage Flats, Placer Cove and Dutch Hill areas. The Marina offers boat rentals, dock rentals and fuel.

The Marina store also offers fresh deli sandwiches (summer only), a convenience store, and our famous fudge made by the fudge-lady herself every Thursday all summer long!

Fishing is a favorite pastime for the angler enthusiasts in your group. With a regulation bag limit of four fish daily and a possession limit of eight fish. Don’t forget your camera so the folks at home will believe the size of the Cutthroat you caught and they will just have to take your word for the rainbow trout that got away. Be sure to pick up your fishing license, bait and tackle at The Marina.

There are also trails throughout the park where nature exploration offers an array of native wildlife. With pristine views of Sand Mountain, Meaden Peak, Hahn’s Peak, Farwell Mountain and the peaks forming the Continental Divide you might spot a red fox frolicking in the aspen forest. Other animals located in the park are mule deer, beaver, chipmunks, long tailed weasel, snowshoe hare and on rare occasions the black bear and mountain lion. With over 200 species of migratory birds and an amazing assortment of wildflowers, the drifting clouds and vast blue sky lends this panorama of splendor a dreamlike quality.
