One of Aspen Center for Environmental Studies' (ACES) four locations. Toklat was built by Stuart and Isabel Mace in 1948. The earl dog sledding trips, the pristine sub-alpine environment, and tall tales told around the hearth in the evening drew both locals and visitors from all over the wolrd. A founder of ACES, Mace built Toklat as a wilderness lodge & family home but envisioned it as a base for ACES programs.
