But no summer visit would be complete without an adventure on Steamboat's world class mountain biking and hiking trails. With trails covering over 50 miles, including beginner, intermediate and advanced hiking and biking specific trails, Steamboat offers on-mountain fun for all levels from bird watching hikers to extreme thrill seekers. The decision isnt what trails you will enjoy, but how you will find time to explore them all.

    Base Elevation: 6,900 feet/2103 meters


    Christie Peak Elevation: 8,020 feet/2444 meters


    Mid-Mountain Elevation: 9,080 feet/2768 meters


    Summit/Mt. Werner Elevation: 10,568 feet/3224 meters


    Vertical Rise: 3,668 feet/1118 meters


    Hiking Trails Thunderhead Trail (3.81 miles): Trails starts at either top or bottom of gondola. 2,180 vertical feet gain/loss during this moderately rugged single track mountain hike. Hikers need to carry plenty of water and use appropriate footwear.


    Bikes prohibited on top 2/3rds of trail.


    Vista Nature Trail (0.86 miles): Begins/ends at top of gondola, including first section which is wide, graded gravel path that is relatively flat and handicap accessible. Second portion is dirt, single track. Bikes prohibited. Chisholm Trail (1.62 miles): A challenging hike from top of gondola to Four Points Hut (9, 716 feet) on service road. Bikes may be encountered along this entire trail.
